July 27, 2017, Foothill Ranch, California: Today, Oakley® and VICIS announced the launch of the VICIS EDGE Shield™ by Oakley, developed exclusively for VICIS ZERO1. Engineered to enhance performance and optimize safety, the EDGE Shield is the first ever co-developed football optics system.
Looking to complete the most technologically advanced football helmet ever designed, VICIS sought out a leader in the optics industry, Oakley. The two brands, both built on innovation and sports performance, collaborated on research and development, adding Oakley’s leading performance innovations and quality optics to ZERO1, a highly engineered football helmet that earned the top rank in 2017 NFL/NFLPA tests. Rooted in Oakley’s 40-year history in innovation and rigorous safety tests that set the brand apart, the VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley is designed to complement the wide field of view of the ZERO1 and improve clarity and contrast for the player.
Leveraging new manufacturing tools and software, including a new freeform approach to High Definition Optics® (HDO), the EDGE Shield by Oakley was exclusively engineered for ZERO1, allowing the brand to create an optically correct shield to match the unique shape of ZERO1 facemasks. The ZERO1 offers the widest field of view of any football helmet on the market – nearly the limit of human peripheral vision.

The VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley will be the only football shield available with Oakley Prizm™, a revolutionary lens technology that has turned eyewear into vital equipment for sports. Prizm is engineered to dramatically enhance detail and help improve performance by providing ultra-precise color tuning, designed for specific environments. The VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley is molded out of Oakley’s high impact Plutonite®, a proprietary synthetic material that blocks 100% of harmful UV rays and helps protect athlete’s eyes during games and training.
